EVALUATION PROCESS

PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

Complete Intake Paperwork: Please fill out the necessary intake paperwork at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. This helps us gather essential information about your needs.

Upload Relevant Documents: On our patient portal, upload any medical referrals and previous psychological testing or relevant medical records. This ensures we have a comprehensive understanding of your situation.

PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR THE APPOINTMENT

Parents can ease their child’s concerns before the testing
appointment by explaining it in a child-friendly way:

Reassure and Encourage: Let your child know that they will be visiting a doctor who wants to help them do even better. Reassure them that it’s a fun and interesting experience.

What to Expect: Describe the activities as “brain games,” such as puzzles, reading stories, remembering pictures, and playing with blocks. Emphasize that it’s all about having fun while showing how their brain works.

No Shots Involved: Make sure to mention that there won’t be any shots or discomfort. It’s just about doing their best and enjoying the games.

This approach helps children feel more comfortable and confident about the upcoming appointment.

INTAKE APPOINTMENT

During the intake appointment, we will have an initial meeting with the child and his/her guardian. This meeting has the objective of understanding the primary concerns and the reason for the test evaluation. The doctor will also aim to gather information regarding the medical, developmental and family history. The information collected will helps us gain a comprehensive understanding the developmental journey. Please consider bringing any medical referrals if available. The intake session usually lasts about 1 hour.

 TESTING DAY

On the day of testing, you or your child will meet with the doctor for a comprehensive psychological or neuropsychological evaluation. While the assessment is in progress, parents or guardians are encouraged to stay in the office to complete parent-report measures. Additionally, teachers will receive electronic rating scales via email to provide their input.
Please allocate approximately 4 hours for the assessment session. To ensure comfort, consider bringing snacks or any good items your child may need.

FEEDBACK SESSION

Approximately 2 to 3 weeks after the completion of the evaluation, a separate feedback session will be scheduled. During this session, the client or parents will meet with us to discuss the testing findings and recommendations in detail. We also provide a comprehensive written report outlining the assessment findings and recommendations. In most cases, it is not necessary for the child to be present at the feedback appointment.

FOLLOW UP

Dr. Irurita maintains regular communication with her clients and their families, typically reaching out a few months after the assessment. This follow-up allows her to monitor the client’s progress and address any additional questions or concerns that may have arisen from the evaluation.

If you have any questions or need support, please feel free to reach out to us.
